Allow only one instance of a appln to run in a system

Hi friends, Is it possible to allow a single instance of a java application to run in a system. When i tried to run another instance of the same application, it should say that already an instance is running. Is there anyway to do the above thing Rgds, Venkatesh P.

A couple of possible approaches are described here: http://www.absolutejava.com/main-articles/just-one-please/

Thankx Torgil. It's very useful to me. But i'm not interested to go with that file and socket methods. Is there any way to face my requirement...........!!!!!!
