removing old versions of java

In my control panel for programs, I have Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 Java (TM) 6 Update 7 J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9 I assume Environment 5 does me NO GOOD! It refuses to go away when I try to remove it from the control panel. HOW should I proceed? Thanks... G Lindstedt

Well, it's not that it's of any harm, except that it uses up disk space... Just uninstall it. If it refuses to go away, check whether it's actually still installed. If it isn't, find some clean-up utility for the Windows registry and let it remove the entry. You can also remove Update 1. As an average user, you hardly need more than a single JRE.
